Volunteer opportunities at Essex NHS Trust

This Volunteers’ Week (2–8 June), we’re highlighting some of the great ways you can make a difference. Volunteers can get involved in a range of roles, whether it’s supporting patients or helping improve our services.

Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles, which range from providing direct support for our patients to helping to develop our services.

The Trust has more than 300 volunteers who provide invaluable support for our patients, their families and visitors, and our staff.

For Volunteers’ Week (2 to 8 June) we are highlighting just a few of the roles we have available.

Meal support volunteers in Westcliff and Rayleigh

We are looking for volunteers to help residents at meal times at our care homes, Clifton Lodge in Westcliff and Rawreth Court in Rayleigh.

The care homes look after people with dementia. You can volunteer for as much or as little time as you want. Applicants will need to be familiar with the term ‘dementia’ and undergo a DBS check and interview chat with the ward managers.

Volunteers to support patients who have had a stroke

Therapists at Beech ward in St Margaret’s hospital, Epping, are looking for people to help them with activities for patients.

This could include helping out at gardening and education groups, playing board games with patients, nail painting and other activities.
A DBS check is required.

Volunteer Support for dementia wards in Thurrock, Clacton and Epping

This is a varied role and you will play a vital role in enhancing the well-being and quality of life for patients living with dementia.

The role includes:

  • Spending time with patients, engaging them in conversation, sharing stories, and participating in activities such as games or crafts.
  • Helping staff to organise activities, group sessions, and events for patients
  • Offering companionship and emotional support to patients to help reduce feelings of isolation or anxiety.
  • Support with meal times and personal care where appropriate.

Ward Volunteers in Epping and Saffron Walden

We are looking for volunteers to support patients at St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping and Saffron Walden Community Hospital.

This is a varied role that includes:

  • Taking patients to the dayroom for their breakfast.
  • Organising activities and games such as bingo or board games.
  • Chatting to patients.
