This Valentine’s Day, Charitable Funds is helping our patients with dementia remember their loved ones.
Charitable funds aims to enhance patient experience by raising money to help us provide the best possible care.
Voluntary donations from members of the public and our staff help us finance ‘little extras’ that make the care our patients receive that bit more special.
Money from the fund has been used to buy Reminiscence Pods for our Older People Assessment Inpatient Service at the Landermere Centre in Clacton and Clifton Lodge and Rawreth Court care homes in Westcliff and Rayleigh.
The pods are pop-up rooms that transform clinical spaces into scenes that help patients stimulate memories and conversation with loved ones around parts of their memory they retain.
Reminiscence pods with a 1950s theme, a vintage tea room and a nostalgic shed, are being used to create therapeutic environments which are also familiar to patients.
Jessica Ling, Senior Occupational Therapist, at the Landermere Centre, said: “Reminiscence pods are unique therapy tools that help enhance the care we provide for patients living with dementia.
“They are incredibly nostalgic and come with items that are familiar to our patients such as magazines, newspapers, recipes and music from the era.
“The pods have been really well received. They help relieve boredom, increase social interaction and stimulate fond memories for our patients, often enabling them to remember their loved ones and poignant moments of their life.”
