An employment programme is helping unemployed young people develop skills to enter rewarding jobs in healthcare.
The Step Forward Programme is for people aged 18 to 30 who are living in Southend and Basildon postcode areas and are unemployed or on a zero hours contract.
The programme is funded by the King’s Trust and is delivered by Enable East, an independent NHS team which operates as part of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT).
Over four weeks, participants will receive a skills assessment to identify their strengths and interests, and personalised support and career planning including:
- Core skills development – improve your English and maths, build resilience and learn wellbeing tips for home and work.
- Learn about healthcare settings, the fundamentals of patient care, and the NHS values.
- Create tailored CVs and covering letters for healthcare jobs, practice interview skills.
The types of jobs they could apply for could be in estates and facilities, administration and clerical, or clinical roles.
