Our new Eating Disorder Service User Network (SUN), launched in January this year, has been set up to empower those living with an eating disorder to take control of their recovery, with support from each other. The network facilitates support groups for loved ones of those with an eating disorder and a collaboration group where those with lived experience support us to shape and develop our services, and the care we deliver.
Groups within the SUN focus on peer support, collaboration with service users, their families and carers, and promoting how to stay well. They are not clinical or therapy groups.
Our ethos within the SUN is to empower patients to hold a sense of responsibility on their recovery journey by promoting choice and flexibility. Service users can access the network as regularly as they wish, they can attend any sessions, workshops or groups they feel will be beneficial or interesting to them and, most importantly, they can be involved in shaping and developing the eating disorder service.
The SUN brings together people with shared experiences to support each other which, in turn, will help people build connections and enable meaningful engagement.
We provide a space where individuals can feel accepted and understood, where everyone’s experiences are recognised as being equally important and valid. The goal is for patients to have a healthy sense of control over their lives.
Our family and carers group meet on the last Thursday of every month, and our consultation group meet on the last Monday of every month. Anyone who is living with an eating disorder, their loved ones or their clinicians who would like to find out more can email [email protected]
