Today, on Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day, Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is launching a campaign to inspire young people to consider a career in the profession.
This year the Trust’s AHP Day celebrations focus on recognising the achievements and contributions of our black, Asian and minority ethnic AHPs and highlighting the many career opportunities available.
Rajkumar Samsonraj, who began his career in India and is now head occupational therapist in specialist services at EPUT, and Mobolaji Lewis, who trained in Nigeria and is now head of physiotherapy, and are among a team of AHPs who will feature in the campaign across Essex.
Alexandra Green, Interim Chief Operations Officer at EPUT, started her career as an AHP in occupational therapy. She said: “AHPs serve a vital role at EPUT. This campaign will shine a light on the vast opportunities AHP careers can offer everyone, including the BAME community.
“AHPs connect patient care, break down barriers and help patients live meaningful lives. This is a really important initiative to ensure our staff represent the communities we serve, helping us to continue to deliver high quality person centred care.”

The Trust is currently recruiting experienced AHPs in full and part-time roles and is offering opportunities to registered AHPs who wish to return to work after a career break.
Glenn Westrop, deputy chief allied health professional at EPUT, said: “There are 14 professions within the AHP role and many are represented at EPUT, from physiotherapists to podiatrists, osteopaths to dietitians and speech and language therapists to art and music therapists.
“All have a vital part to play in delivering high quality care and enabling people to recover and fulfil meaningful lives.”
