Facilitating Opiate Recovery: Withdrawal and Abstinence through Detoxification.

Summary

A double-blind randomised placebo-controlled trial to evaluate feasibility and determine if Baclofen shows potential efficacy in facilitating detoxification from methadone in community-based opiate dependent participants.

Inclusion criteria

Anyone (>18 years old) classified or determined by their addiction service as ready for dose reduction or detoxification and:
• Current DSM-5 opioid use disorder or ICD10/11 opioid dependence.
• Currently treated with methadone substitution therapy
• The client wishes to undergo methadone detoxification and/or dose reduction

Exclusion criteria

• Unable to take baclofen or placebo,or any of their excipients as per SmPC guidance.
• Where there are “Special warnings and precautions for use” according to the SmPC and where risk vs benefit ratio for prescribing is not in favour of prescribing medication.
• Clinician does not deem that the individual is suitable to undergo dose reduction or detoxification at this time.
• Use of regular prescription or illicit medications or drugs which in the opinion of the investigators will interfere with subject safety or study integrity.

Summary

Interviews and focus groups to find out if staff and patients are willing to talk about gambling, what help to talk about it, the best way of checking for gambling harms, and how many people are experiencing harms from gambling using the Problem Gambling Severity Questionnaire.

Inclusion criteria

Individuals will be users of, or work in, either a mental health or substance misuse treatment service. 

Service-users will be both new referrals and exiting / longer term users of the services.

1. Aged 18+ 

2. Presentation at the above Trusts/sites for assessment.
 
3. Staff members at the above Trusts/site. 

4. Competent and willing to provide information.

Exclusion criteria

1. Where the individual has not given explicit consent to take part in the study.

2. Where the individual is deemed not to be competent (e.g., under the influence of substances).

3. Outside of stated age.
